Blue screen - stop errors - again!!

When my son plays games online we are quite often plagued with blue screen stop errors.

Usually 7 or 8 but has been 5 in the past. I have gone to the microsoft site and looked them up, but the answers do not apply to me - I do not have the graphics card that they state, and I do not understand about USB Contollers.

I put it down to the fact that he uses MSN Messenger at the same time myself.

I have run all the usual checks and nothing comes up as a problem.

I have checked the ram and all the connections inside and am now at a loss as to what else to do

Have you got a graphics card fitted into the pc or is it the graphics chip that is built onto the motherboard?

Gonna suggest pulling the graphics card out and seeing if the onboard chip caused you blue screens.

the graphics card is WinFast AGG00GTand in a PCI slot.

I have tried pulling it out and putting it back again.

When I first put it in it came up with a message about there not being enough power and I did eventually fin another connection from the cpu and connected it to the card and then it worked properly.

Your PSU could be the problem then causing the blue screens, as its drawing all the displays on your sons games, its taking power from elsewhere.

I'm not saying 'wicked, problem solved' but I'd look at how many watts your are using and what your PSU is.

Sorry - the graphics card is in a AGP slot - don't know if that makes any difference?

The PSU says max. 423W - I thought that it was a 450, but there again I cannot find the box, so I had to open up the machine.

How do I find out how many watts I am useing?

nobump:

Fill in the different bits of hardware you are running on your system and it will give you the maximum wattage usage:

When you say you've checked the RAM, do you mean tested or looked at/cleaned/rended free of dust?

PSU or RAM issue I think, had all this grief at beginning of year.
