PC restarts when clicking to print / inserting USB

Hello,

Just wondered if anyone out there could solve a little long time mystery for me !

When i start my PC i can print okay, insert USB media etc okay. No problem there !

However,,,, when the PC has been on for half a day or more (roughly), sometimes when i click to print something then it restarts itself. This also sometimes happens when i insert USB media when the PC has been on a long time.

It doesn't happen all the time, but i have definitely noticed that it tends to happen much more when the PC has been on a long time.

I'm starting to think it could be USB related as the printer is connected through USB. I don't think it is the fault of the Printer, because my Lexmark printer used to do this too !

Anyone got any ideas as to what i could try to eliminate this issue ?

Best Regards,
Andrew

You can try the following:

In Device Manager, right click (each) USB Root Hub->Power Management->UNtick "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power", OK etc...and see if that solves it.

Hi there, thanks for the information i'll give that a go. Surely though that would only turn the USB off for power saving NOT the whole PC ??

There are quite a few entries in Device Manager for USB (see first image), as you can see from images 2 to 6 the "power management" tab is missing from most of the USB entries, but it does appear on a handful of them, so on the ones where it is available i have de-ticked them, let's see how it goes !
