wireless strangers name ?

wireless strangers name ?

Hi Dave was looking at his wireless connection and noticed ..it had someone elses name on there .. it was not connected it needed the address , could this be someone cruising around for a connection ...or is it his comp picking up someone elses internet connection ? . in other words is it a problem . thanks .

It's not a problem Sylvie.

Most wireless connections are capable of picking up signals from other wireless networks in the area.
As long as your network is secure (using WPA/WPA 2), there's nothing to worry about

Thanks for that Fireblade ,, its just that I have never seen it before and thought the worst , but its us picking up his signal ... is that right ?

Yes, that's right. It just means they haven't chosen to not broadcast the network name.
If you can work out which of your neighbours' it is from the broadcast name, it might be friendly to pop round and check that they know this. Out neighbour was not only broadcasting the network name, they han't put any encryption protection on it at all. Quick visit from my son soon sorted it for them.

Thanks Fairynuff , i think it may have been someone in the street sat in a car ...the name is non of our neighbours , will just see if it happens again and i will look out the window .
