Blue Screen Stop 0x0000008E

Continually geting the stop code. MS says it occurs infrequently. How do I determine what it is and how to fix it?

The fault is usually associated with hardware or drivers.
Can be BIOS related or nvida and Via 4-in-one drivers sometimes.

Have you made any recent changes to your system
Can you give us some more details. ?

Power surge during the storm, utility transformer Lightning strike, shorts due to water damage?

If so then maybe the power supply is damaged. ATX specs are tight on voltage and flucuations. Also the CPU or the Ram could have taken it on the chin.

STOP: 0x0000008E

Similar to the requests under this topic my wife's Compaq is doing similar things. Only not on Start-Up. This STOP error message occurs after the pc has been running for some time.
Full message read:
STOP: 0x0000008E
(0xC0000005, 0xBFA1CF62), 0xF0b21A9C, 0x00000000)
ati3d1ag.dll base at BFA0B000, Datestamp 3be9608a

It then says it is doing a memory dump and upon rebooting press F8 and choose 'SAFE' startup mode.

Funny thing is the pc runs fine with all applications. All memory is fine and programs operate as they should.

The only addition to the pc since purchased is a D-Link wireless card. Otherwise the pc runs clean - no games, no adware, no spyware, no additional memory etc.

Totally baffled on this one - hope someone can shed light on it.

Cheers...

@Phocques

The clue is ati3d1ag.dll this is related to either a chipset or video driver

You might consider installing the latest.

ATI support
https://support.ati.com/ics/support/...asp?deptID=894

Also is your Java installation up to date?

EDIT** Just a thought, possible overheating!!
