Kaspersky IS 2009 is getting rave reviews everywhere, so of those two... that's what I would go for.
Eset Smart Security is a worthy alternative though. I use it meself

Would go for Kaspersky (IS), have used it for the last 2 years, and been more than pleased with it...

As Fireblade suggests, the Eset product is also worth a look.

Kaspersky and Eset would be the 2 best security suites around...

I dropped Trend last year in favour of ESSET Smart Security.
Tried Kasperksy and it was also very good, however I went for ESSET simply because it was less of a resource hog and the GUI is plain and simple to use.

Thanks Guys for the opinions and comments. I will look at ESSET which I had never heard of before and choose between that and Kaspersky..

Another vote for Eset here Easy to install, easy to use and like Mal says doesn't hog.

The 3 PC licence is 60% more expensive than Kapersky... Is it really worth the extra $60? ($70 if I get a CD posted)?

BTW - does the "smart security" include AV ot only malware, firewall and antispam? What does NOD32 mean?

I wouldn't say it's worth $60 more, no.
Shop around for it though. You can usually find the retail boxed version of products a LOT cheaper in online stores (i.e. Amazon), than it would cost direct from the developer.
For instance... the boxed version of Kaspersky IS 2009 - with a one year subscription for 3x PC's, is available on Amazon UK for just £16.99 + £3.23 P&P

All 'Smart Security' suites include an AV product.
NOD32 is Eset's stand-alone AV solution, and it's included with their Smart Security package

Thanks Fireblade... I'll shop around and try for a bargain... being in the Antipodes it is not necessarily easy to find things cheaper than online.. but I will try.

In case it's of interest, this was flagged up just now on my GMail homepage:

Kaspersky Internet Security V.8 (2009)

From my reading you get an extra year (making it 2 years) for 3PCs for an extra £4.99 = £35.

Thanks Sion,

the exchange rate makes 35 pounds = about $80 Aussie dollars so I guess a d/l OEM 3pc/2yr version for $33 AUD is a bargain...

last question before I buy... What if any, drawbacks are there to getting the OEM? Can I reinstall the s/w if required or is it a one use key?
